What is the Cuff Caliper?

	The Cuff Caliper is a calibration device designed to indicate the diameter of a pair of handcuffs or other restraint device. It shows the fixed position that the handcuffs are currently in.  The markings are on both sides making it easy to identify the position.

Why is this beneficial?

ne word --- LIABILITY!  The Cuff Caliper enables the user to easily identify the position of the restraint device.  The Cuff Caliper is an easy to read number scale that moves across a fixed indicator.  The number is directly related to a fixed position that the user can read and document the position of the restraint.

Anyone who deals with handcuffs, especially those in law enforcement, has received numerous complaints about restraints being too tight.  In fact, there have been injuries and lawsuits for this very reason.  The Cuff Caliper enables the user to look at the handcuff and quickly identify and document its position.  Once the position is identified, it can easily and accurately be recreated.  If a complaint or an injury arises and the position was identified properly, the user has a valuable ally.  Fraudulent claims are made on a daily basis.  The Cuff Caliper provides a defense against such allegations.

Are lawsuits a problem?

LAPD- Rampart Police were involved in a lawsuit for millions of dollars.  They lost.  One of the major reasons for the lawsuit was that the individual involved claimed his handcuffs were improperly applied resulting in injury to his wrists.  He claimed the handcuffs were too tight.  If they had been using handcuffs with Cuff Calipers, the outcome could have been different.  Insurance companies, attorneys, and police officers like the idea of being able to document and recreate the position of the handcuffs.  It is as easy as documenting that the handcuffs were double locked.  For example, the officer would document that the handcuffs were double locked in the number 17 position.  Furthermore, this position can be recreated at anytime, such as court.

Is it cost effective?

The cost of a pair of handcuffs with the Cuff Calipers markings is nominal and would be very valuable if it prevented just one lawsuit.

How accurate is it?

The design of the Cuff Caliper does not interfere with the mechanical workings of the handcuff or the restraint device.  As long as the handcuff or restraint device is working correctly, the Cuff Caliper will remain accurate.
